Basilica of Sant'Ubaldo

The Basilica of Sant'Ubaldo sits atop Mount Ingino in Gubbio and is a church featuring multiple entrance portals and interior spaces. At its center stands a neogothic shrine housing the remains of Saint Ubaldo behind the main altar.

Construction of this basilica took place between 1513 and 1527, succeeding a medieval church from the 13th century. The new building was created to provide a more appropriate home for the saint's sacred remains.

This basilica plays a central role in the Corsa dei Ceri festival each May 15th, when processions carry wooden shrines through Gubbio's streets. The event shows how deeply the site is woven into the community's identity and traditions.

You can reach the basilica either by hiking a mountain path or by taking a chair lift from the base of Mount Ingino. Both routes offer different views of Gubbio and the surrounding landscape.

The interior holds noteworthy artworks including stained glass windows and a painted altarpiece from the late 1500s. These pieces reveal the artistic vision of craftspeople from the Renaissance period.
