Museo civico

The Museo Civico is an art museum housed in Palazzo dei Consoli, a Gothic palace at the heart of Gubbio with several floors. The collection includes regional artworks, medieval artifacts, and decorative objects that tell the story of the city and its surroundings.

The Palazzo dei Consoli was built between 1350 and 1450 as the center of civic authority and stands as a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. The building was transformed into a museum, preserving an important part of Gubbio's cultural memory.

The collection displays the Iguvine Tablets, seven bronze plates with the most extensive known Umbrian religious text from ancient times. Visitors can see these inscriptions directly and understand why this discovery matters so much to scholars studying the region's past.

The palazzo spreads across multiple floors that you can walk through at your own pace, with good views over the city from various points. Plan enough time to move through the different rooms and take in the details of the collection without rushing.
