Area marina protetta Cinque Terre

This marine reserve covers 4,591 hectares along the Ligurian coast, featuring rocky formations, sandy areas, and extensive seagrass meadows stretching between Levanto and Riomaggiore. The protected zone was established to preserve natural diversity while allowing controlled human activities.

The Ministry of Environment designated this marine protection zone in 1997 to preserve natural resources. This establishment created a new balance between conservation goals and local community activities.

The marine area blends traditional fishing with conservation, allowing local communities to continue their maritime practices under specific management guidelines.

Visitors need to obtain the Cinque Terre Card to access park facilities and water activities in the area. It is advisable to check current access conditions and restrictions before your visit.

The area contains two distinct natural reserve zones at Punta Mesco and Capo Montenero featuring rare coral formations and marine caves. These underwater landscapes are accessible for diving and reveal the geological diversity of the Ligurian coast.
