Musei della Cartiera Papale

The Musei della Cartiera Papale combines a paper manufacturing museum with a natural history collection housed in a Renaissance industrial building near the Castellano river.

The paper mill, constructed in 1512 under Pope Julius II's direction, operated as a manufacturing center with architectural contributions from Alberto da Piacenza and Cola dell'Amatrice.

The museum maintains Antonio Orsini's botanical collection from the Apennine region, featuring numerous plant species that were later named after this Risorgimento figure.

Located at Via della Cartiera 1, the museum offers guided tours, paper-making workshops, and maintains regular exhibitions about science and technology throughout the year.

Visitors can participate in hands-on workshops to create bambagina paper sheets using traditional methods from the Renaissance period in the original mill setting.
