Castello di Felino

Castello di Felino is a fortified structure perched on a hill between two streams, with thick stone walls and four corner towers flanking its sides. A deep defensive moat surrounds the complex and defines its external appearance to this day.

The fortress was founded in 890 by Marquis Luppone and passed through centuries of change under various rulers. By the late 14th century, it reached its architectural peak when the Rossi family took control and undertook major renovations.

The chapel inside displays frescoes with the coats of arms of former lords, telling the story of the building's aristocratic past. Visitors walking through can sense the religious and ruling role this place held for the surrounding lands.

The building now functions as a hotel and restaurant, so planning ahead is recommended if you want to walk around or visit the museum spaces. The site accommodates cultural events and private celebrations, making advance booking wise for visits.

The basement level contains ancient prison cells that reveal the judicial authority once held by the castle's lords. In the courtyards today stand colonnades and balconies that have replaced the original defensive walkways.
