Castello di Meleto, Medieval castle in Gaiole in Chianti, Italy.

Castello di Meleto is a castle in Gaiole in Chianti, reinforced by cylindrical towers and thick walls surrounding a central keep. The estate also includes vineyards that produce wines following methods typical of the Chianti region.

The castle first appeared in written records in the 11th century, linked to the Benedictine monastery Badia a Coltibuono. It later passed to the Firidolfi family as local powers shifted across the region over the following centuries.

The castle shows its transformation from a military fortress into a noble home, particularly visible in the valuable interior rooms you see while walking through. Visitors can experience how this shift shaped the way the spaces are arranged and decorated.

The estate covers a large area, so comfortable walking shoes are a good idea when exploring the different sections and vineyards. The warmer months make it easier to move around the outdoor areas and take in the surrounding countryside.

The estate has a Bee Park that shows the connection between beekeeping and winemaking in a hands-on way. This kind of park is rare on a historic property and gives visitors something unexpected to discover beyond the castle walls.
