Castello di Ama

Castello di Ama is a wine estate and art venue in Gaiole in Chianti that sits on hillsides with specific soil conditions suited to grape growing. The property blends traditional winemaking operations with contemporary art installations spread across the working vineyards.

The estate grew from a traditional wine operation, but underwent a major shift in the 2000s when the owners began commissioning permanent art installations. This blend of winemaking and contemporary art redefined what the property could be.

International artists have created installations throughout the property that sit among the grapevines and become part of the landscape. Walking here means encountering contemporary art as you move through the vineyards.

Visitors can explore the grounds with or without guided tours, allowing flexibility in how you experience the wine cellars and artworks. Good walking shoes are recommended since the paths wind through vineyard terrain and across natural surfaces.

A striking mirror installation by Daniel Buren uses reflective surfaces to reveal different views of the surrounding vineyards. The work invites visitors to see the familiar landscape from unexpected angles.
