Castello di Nisida, Renaissance castle on Nisida island, Naples, Italy.

The Castello di Nisida stands on an elevated position connected to mainland Naples by a stone bridge, offering clear views over the Gulf.

Built in 1279 during the Angevin domination, the castle became part of a defense system stretching from Baia to Sperone under Don Pedro de Toledo.

The fortress represents the military architecture of medieval Naples, combining Renaissance design elements with defensive fortification principles of the period.

The castle currently functions as an underage penal institute under the administration of the Italian Ministry of Justice and remains closed to public visits.

During the severe fever epidemic of 1626, the castle transformed into a hospital, demonstrating its adaptability to serve different purposes through centuries.
