Città della Scienza, Science museum in Naples, Italy
Città della Scienza is a natural history and technology museum in Naples on the coast of the Gulf of Naples with numerous interactive exhibits about scientific innovations. The facility spreads across several buildings with experimental laboratories for visitors of different ages.
Physicist Vittorio Silvestrini founded the center in 1987 with the vision of making scientific research accessible to the public. The first exhibition halls opened in 1996 on the site of former industrial buildings in the Bagnoli district.
The name combines two concepts: city and science create a space for research in everyday life on the Gulf of Naples. Families visit the center together with children from the region or with school groups from across Campania during the week.
Ramps and elevators connect all floors of the museum, allowing wheelchair users to reach each exhibition. Guided tours in Italian and English can be reserved in advance through the website or by phone.
A business incubator and research laboratories are located inside the facility, where scientists work daily on new technologies and experiments. Visitors can watch through glass panels as projects in areas such as robotics or materials research take shape.
