Castello di Novi Ligure

Castello di Novi Ligure is a medieval fortress featuring a 30-meter-high square tower surrounded by remaining defensive walls set within a park near the historical center. The structure displays typical elements of Piedmontese military construction and sits in a natural landscape setting.

The fortress was first documented in 1153 when it protected an early settlement lacking walls of its own. It retained strategic military importance until 1746 when Austrian forces briefly occupied it during their campaign against Genoa.

The castle serves as a key stop on the Castelli Aperti circuit, showcasing the defensive heritage of northern Piedmont near the Genoese border. Visitors can experience how this fortification shaped the region's identity.
