Castello di Pieve del Vescovo, Medieval fortress in Corciano, Italy.

Castello di Pieve del Vescovo is a medieval fortress near Corciano in Umbria, featuring four corner towers and walls arranged in a quadrilateral shape. The structure sits on a hilltop overlooking the Caina Valley.

In 1396, the original church building was converted into a fortress with permission from Perugia. This transformation marked the beginning of its military role in the region.

Inside, you can see frescoes painted by Taddeo Zuccari, particularly in the Chapel of San Giovanni Battista dating to the 16th century. These decorations reflect the tastes of the bishops and nobles who once lived here.

The site underwent extensive restoration in 2005 and now operates as part of the Diocesan Museum network. Visitors should expect uneven terrain and steep pathways leading up to the hilltop and surrounding areas.

In 1397, this fortress hosted the wedding celebration of military captain Biordo Michelotti and noblewoman Giovanna Orsini. This grand event shows how important the location was as a venue for significant aristocratic occasions of that era.
