Sant’Andrea della Zirada

Sant'Andrea della Zirada is a Gothic church in Santa Croce with a single nave and high ceiling. The main portal is made of white stone and features carved reliefs from the 14th century, while the choir follows Gothic design principles.

Four noble women founded this religious complex in 1329 as a center for prayer and community. After extensive reconstruction in the 15th century, the church kept its Gothic features and continued to serve the neighborhood.

The church holds paintings by Domenico Tintoretto and Paris Bordon that reflect religious life in Venice. These artworks show how the place served as a spiritual center for local believers.

The location sits near Piazzale Roma, Venice's main transportation hub. You can reach it easily by vaporetto or with a short walk through the neighborhood streets.

The facade displays a curved Gothic crown that blends medieval forms with later stucco work. This layering of different periods makes the exterior an overlooked example of how Venetian buildings evolved over time.
