Construction began in 1815 under architect Gian Antonio Selva and was completed in 1834 by Antonio Diedo. The project marks one of the last major new churches built in Venice during the early 1800s.

The church serves today as a place of worship for the Greek-Ukrainian Catholic community and their gatherings. This reflects Venice's religious diversity extending beyond Italian Catholic traditions.
