Church of San Francesco

San Francesco is a Gothic church in Cortona featuring a large main nave that ends in an apse with vaulted ceiling. The interior is complemented by two smaller side chapels built with comparable vault structures.

Construction began in 1245, making it the second Franciscan church built after the basilica in Assisi. It became an important spiritual center for the region over the following centuries.
