San Francesco d'Assisi

San Francesco d'Assisi is a baroque church in Gallipoli with three naves and ten ornate altars distributed along its side walls. The interior was transformed into its current style between the 17th and 18th centuries, while preserving the structure of an earlier medieval building.

The church was founded in the 13th century and underwent extensive remodeling during the baroque period. These renovations in the 17th and 18th centuries shaped the building's appearance today.

The Chapel of the Crucifix holds two wooden statues by Vespasiano Genuino from the 18th century depicting the two thieves. These carved works represent lesser-known treasures of the building and showcase local craftsmanship from that era.
