San Vincenzo Ferreri

San Vincenzo Ferreri is a former Dominican church near Giardini Iblei in Ragusa with a rectangular limestone facade and Corinthian pilasters. The building features a decorated portal with semi-columns, a distinctive bell tower with colored tile patterns, and now contains a public auditorium with approximately 140 seats.

Dominican friars established the church and convent in 1509 as part of their expansion across Sicily. Following the devastating 1693 earthquake, both structures underwent complete reconstruction and gained their current appearance.

The interior displays a single nave with a semicircular apse, where twisted columns decorated with leaf motifs and cherub ornaments reflect the religious craftsmanship that continued after the earthquake rebuilt the structure.

The location sits very close to Giardini Iblei Park, making it easy to reach from this popular green space. The building is accessible for various events and welcomes visitors throughout the year.

A large sundial adorns the right side of the portal, showing the structure's historical connection to its original purpose. This astronomical decoration is an often overlooked detail that reveals the link between practical knowledge and religious architecture.
