Santa Maria dell'Itria, Ragusa, Baroque church in Ragusa, Italy.
Santa Maria dell'Itria is a Baroque church in Ragusa with a two-story facade, three decorated portals, and a bell tower topped with a blue dome. The interior divides into three naves separated by Corinthian columns, with octagonal cross symbols visible throughout the structure.
The Knights of Malta founded this church in 1401, and it suffered minor damage from the 1693 earthquake. A major restoration in 1733 gave the building its current appearance.
The church takes its name from a Marian apparition that held meaning for the local community. Today you can see how the five altars with works by local artisans shape the interior and draw both worshippers and visitors.
The interior is open for viewing and allows close observation of the architectural details and artworks throughout the space. Wear comfortable shoes and check local visiting times, as hours may vary depending on religious services or events.
The bell tower is decorated with eight terracotta panels from Caltagirone showing flower vases in Rococo style. These fine ceramic works represent an overlooked craft detail that connects the entire building to regional artistic traditions.
