Castello di San Girolamo, Medieval castle in Narni, Italy
The Castello di San Girolamo sits along Via Flaminia Ternana with remains of a church, a bell tower base, and structures from multiple periods. The building preserves elements spanning centuries of different uses and renovations.
The site began around 1300 as a Benedictine monastery and underwent major rebuilding in the 1400s. A cardinal later renovated it for Franciscan friars who stayed for four centuries.
The church inside served as a spiritual center for religious communities living and worshiping within its walls. The space still shows traces of this monastic life through its architectural remains.
The site sits on an ancient road and is visible from outside as you pass through the region. Visitors should check ahead since the property is privately owned and access may be limited.
From 1920 to 1970 the site served as a seminary where young men trained for religious service. One of its graduates became a well-known Italian singer-songwriter whose songs still reach audiences today.
