Santa Margherita, Former Romanesque church in Dorsoduro, Venice, Italy.
The Santa Margherita building features a restored exterior with a truncated bell tower and large windows that illuminate its spacious interior hall.
Built in 836 by merchant Geniano Busignaco, the church received its consecration in 853 during Doge Pietro Tradonico's rule as a three-aisled basilica.
The structure transformed from a religious site to different functions, including a tobacco factory, Protestant church, cinema, and current university lecture hall.
Located in Campo Santa Margherita, the building now serves Venice University's architecture faculty with modern seating arrangements for academic lectures.
The ceiling retains Antonio Zanchi's painting of The Martyrdom of Saint Margaret, connecting its educational present with its religious past.
