Santa Maria Assunta

Santa Maria Assunta is a Romanesque church in San Quirico d'Orcia constructed with square travertine blocks arranged in an even pattern. The interior follows a single-nave layout with a small apse decorated by carved animal head motifs that add textural detail to the sacred space.

The church was built in the second half of the 11th century along the Via Francigena, one of Europe's main pilgrimage routes to Rome. Its location made it a significant stopping point for thousands of faithful traveling this path each year during medieval times.
