Santa Maria Impensole

Santa Maria Impensole features three naves divided by rounded stone arches with capitals displaying allegorical figures and medieval stone decorations at the entrance portal.

The church stands on the foundations of an 8th-century structure, which researchers identified as a Roman temple originally dedicated to Bacchus.

The interior preserves medieval frescoes discovered during renovations in the 1960s, along with a wooden statue of the Assumption from the 17th century.

The church is located at the entrance of Via Mazzini, previously known as Via Cajola, which remains one of the main streets in Narni.

The name 'Impensole' derives from 'in pisilis', referring to its construction above two large Roman cisterns that support the entire structure.
