Convento di Giaccherino, Franciscan convent and events venue in Pistoia, Italy
The Convento di Giaccherino is a Franciscan convent built on a hilltop overlooking the plains stretching from Serravalle toward Florence. The complex features two cloisters, various rooms, and gardens planted with Lebanese cedars.
Gabriello Panciatichi founded the convent in 1414 as a home for Franciscan friars known as 'del Crocifisso', establishing it as an act of repentance. The founding was tied to the patron's wish to atone for his money-lending business.
The building contains frescoed lunettes in its cloisters painted by Alessio Gemignani and Francesco di Alessandro Leoncini that depict religious scenes. These artworks form part of the monastic decoration and shape the appearance of the inner courtyards.
The site today functions as a multipurpose event venue with spaces suited for weddings, business meetings, conferences, and cultural gatherings. The facilities are designed to accommodate events of various sizes and can be arranged for workshops and press conferences.
During an event in January 2024, a floor collapse occurred at the site, injuring approximately 30 people. This incident highlighted structural maintenance challenges facing this historic building.
