San Leonardo al Lago features a stone facade with a round oculus, rounded arch portal, and narrow windows along its lateral walls.
The structure began as an Augustinian hermitage in 1119 near Lake Verano, and underwent reconstruction during the 13th and 14th centuries.
The church apse contains frescoes of the Life of the Virgin by Lippo Vanni, while the refectory displays a Crucifixion fresco by Giovanni di Paolo.
The museum recorded varying visitor numbers, with 1,867 visitors in 2018, 1,683 in 2019, 518 in 2020, and 918 in 2021.
The convent received fortification modifications in 1366 to protect against raiding armies that threatened the surrounding territory.
