Posillipo cableway, Aerial lift in Posillipo district, Naples, Italy.
Posillipo cableway was an aerial transport link connecting two districts of Naples with a steep descent. It carried passengers from the elevated Posillipo ridge down to a large exhibition grounds below.
The cable car opened in 1940 and operated until 1961, suffering damage during World War II before resuming service. After closure, the station served different purposes including use as a restaurant space.
The cable car station served as a gathering place for locals who enjoyed views while traveling between neighborhoods. It shaped how people moved through and experienced the different districts of Naples.
The original station site is currently undergoing renovation and is no longer operational for transport. Visitors can explore the area and enjoy the neighborhood views while walking through the surrounding districts.
During the roughly six-minute ride, passengers enjoyed views of the Gulf of Pozzuoli stretching below them. This aerial route offered a perspective on Naples that few other transport options of that era provided.
