National Gallery of Cosenza

The National Gallery of Cosenza occupies Palazzo Arnone, a sixteenth-century building located on Triglio Hill in the historic center. The palace holds paintings and graphic works spanning five centuries of Italian art history across its exhibition halls.

The palazzo was built in the sixteenth century and later served as a courthouse and prison before becoming a museum. The structure survived two major fires and suffered severe damage from the 1854 earthquake, leading to extensive reconstructions.

The museum displays works by regional and Italian artists spanning several centuries, arranged within the halls of this historic palace. Visitors can trace how artistic styles and movements evolved over time by walking through the galleries.

The museum is located in the historic center, which is reached via narrow streets and stairs. Wheelchair access is available throughout the building, and visitors should wear sturdy shoes to navigate the hillside and cobblestone streets of the old town.

The museum holds an especially extensive collection of graphic works by the Futurist artist Umberto Boccioni from the early 1900s. These works offer rare insight into his working methods and artistic development outside of his better-known paintings.
