Nereo Cave

Nereo Cave is an underwater formation beneath the limestone cliffs of Capo Caccia featuring a network of tunnels and chambers accessible through multiple points. The system spans different depth zones suitable for various diving levels.

The cave takes its name from Nereus, a figure in Greek mythology regarded as an ancient deity of the Mediterranean Sea. The natural formation later became a destination for divers and marine researchers.

The cave draws divers from across the region who come to explore and observe marine life. It serves as a place where people develop appreciation for the underwater world and connect with efforts to protect it.

Certified diving centers in Alghero offer guided tours that can be arranged for different experience levels. Conditions are generally better during the warmer months.

The walls are covered with red coral colonies and yellow leptosamnia polyps that create natural decoration throughout the cave. These colorful organisms make each area within the tunnels into its own habitat for countless small creatures.
