Marina di Sestri Ponente, human settlement in Genoa, Liguria, Italy
Marina di Sestri Ponente is a mooring facility in Genoa, Italy, where boats of all sizes from small to 130 meters long anchor and are maintained. The facility has about 500 berths, multiple docks, and ample parking, with workshops and shops for boat owners and visitors.
The marina grew from a boat repair workshop run by the Luglio family operating since the 1960s squeezed between two large shipyards. The modern facility was constructed from 2002 onward following plans approved in 2000 and opened in 2007 to provide space for large yachts that previously could only be docked in the main port.
Marina di Sestri Ponente is a place where the maritime tradition and daily life intersect - boat owners regularly meet to care for their vessels and share stories about sea journeys. The air carries the scent of salt and the cries of seagulls as people walk along the docks and observe the rhythm of the water.
Reach the marina by train to Genoa Sestri Ponente station (about 18 minutes on foot) or by car via the A10 motorway, exit Genova Aeroporto with ample parking available. The hospitality desk operates from 9 am to 6 pm offering assistance with bookings and inquiries; outside these hours until 6 am, emergency contacts are available.
The facility is privately operated under the name Marina Genova with specialization in caring for large boats over 24 meters and especially over 50 meters. It hosts the annual Yacht&Garden festival in May combining plants, art, and music, along with the Classic Boat Show featuring traditional vessels.
