Monte Orsaro, Mountain summit in Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany, Italy
Monte Orsaro is a mountain straddling the border between Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany, rising to 1,831 meters above sea level. The northern face drops sharply, while the southern side slopes more gently toward the valley below.
The mountain takes its name from bears that inhabited the area until the mid-17th century. Records show the last one was captured in the early 1700s.
The Monte Orsaro station of the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps serves as a crucial emergency response center for the surrounding territory.
The climb starts from Rifugio Mariotti near Lake Santo and follows marked paths through the national park area. Proper footwear and weather protection are important, as conditions at the summit can change quickly.
The mountain hosts its own alpine rescue and cave rescue station, responsible for emergencies across the wider region. This specialized team operates continuously for search and rescue missions.
