Monte Osero

Monte Osero, Mountain summit in Province of Piacenza, Italy.

Monte Osero is a mountain in the Province of Piacenza that rises to 1,301 meters and features steep wooded slopes facing Val Perino, with grassy terrain at the top. The ridgeline connects two mountain passes and displays changing vegetation zones that shift with increasing elevation.

The mountain saw intense fighting between partisan forces and German troops during World War II, particularly during the Cerro battle in December 1944. This military episode left lasting marks on the landscape and shaped the area's recent past.

The summit holds a small shrine with a Madonna statuette, reflecting local religious customs and serving as a spiritual landmark for those who climb here. Visitors often leave small items or prayers at this spot, showing how meaningful the place remains for people in the region.

Several well-maintained CAI trails cross the mountain slopes and connect different mountain passes through an extensive hiking network. Check current conditions and trail markers before heading out to make the most of your visit.

Wreckage of an American Douglas A-20 Havoc aircraft from World War II was discovered at the summit, evidence of the aerial combat that took place over this mountainous region. This crash site remains a tangible reminder of the wartime events that unfolded above the slopes.
