Monte Tobbio

Monte Tobbio is a mountain summit in the Province of Alessandria in the Ligurian Apennines, with rocky slopes shaped by its distinctive peridotite bedrock that supports little plant growth. The peak rises approximately 1,000 meters and displays bare, rugged terrain typical of this geological formation.

The mountain saw combat during World War II in 1944 when Italian resistance fighters battled Nazi and fascist forces on its slopes. This conflict left a lasting mark on the region and remains part of its local memory.

A small chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Caravaggio sits at the summit, drawing pilgrims and hikers who seek a moment of reflection at this high place. The site carries a quiet spiritual meaning for those who visit.

Several hiking trails lead to the summit from nearby towns like Voltaggio and Bosio, with routes varying in difficulty and clarity of markings. Sturdy footwear and plenty of water are essential for the climb, especially in warmer months.

On clear days, visitors can see the Ligurian Sea to the south and the Pennine Alps to the north from the summit. This expansive view across multiple landscape zones is one of the rewards of reaching the top.
