Lago della Busalletta, lake in Liguria, Italy
Lago della Busalletta is an artificial reservoir in Liguria, created between 1970 and 1977 to store water for the region. The basin is fed by the Scrivia stream and sits surrounded by hills and forests, with Monte Leco rising above the water.
The reservoir was built between 1970 and 1977 to increase water supply for Genoa and surrounding communities. The project was a major infrastructure effort that transformed water management in the region.
The path around the lake is easy to walk and reached via clear trails starting from Busalla train station, with signs from the LIPU foundation. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and note that some trail sections are uneven and sudden flood warnings are possible during dam maintenance periods.
Along the lake edge sit large concrete pipes that are actually ventilation shafts for an underground railway tunnel, adding an unexpected industrial touch to the landscape. The area is also monitored by the LIPU bird protection organization, which safeguards the habitat for owls and tawny owls.
