Museo della Specola, University astronomy museum in Palazzo Poggi, Bologna, Italy
The Museo della Specola displays astronomical instruments, including armillary spheres, wooden telescopes, clocks, and navigational tools across multiple exhibition rooms.
The Astronomical Tower, constructed between 1712 and 1726, served as the primary observatory for the University of Bologna's scientific research and astronomical calculations.
The museum preserves collections from private observatories, including instruments donated by Cardinal Gianantonio Davia and Cardinal Sebastiano Antonio Tanara in the 18th century.
Visitors need to reserve appointments for guided tours from Tuesday to Sunday, with specific time slots at 10:30, 12:00, and 15:30.
In 1790, Giovanni Battista Guglielmini conducted experiments from the tower by dropping lead spheres to demonstrate Earth's rotation.
