Palazzo Magnani, Renaissance palazzo in central Bologna, Italy.
Palazzo Magnani is a Renaissance building in central Bologna featuring a large inner courtyard and classical architectural details from the late 1500s. The structure displays elaborate interior spaces with frescoes and notable stone sculptures that show the skilled craftsmanship of that era.
Construction began in 1577 under Domenico Tibaldi and continued after his death in 1583 under Floriano Ambrosini, who shaped the final design. Both architects contributed to the craftsmanship and artistic legacy visible in the building today.
The main hall displays a remarkable fresco showing scenes from Rome's foundation, created in the late 1500s and reflecting the artistic power of the region. This work shapes the space and tells of how classical themes mattered deeply to local artists and patrons.
Access is available for groups, ideally with advance notice for a better experience when visiting. Weekend hours are best for guided tours of the space.
A monumental chimney structure displays statues of Minerva and Mars with a Lupercalia figure crowning the top from later additions. This blend of practical elements with artistic decoration is uncommon for buildings of that time.
