Palazzo Antinori, Renaissance palazzo in Via de' Tornabuoni, Florence, Italy
Palazzo Antinori is a three-story Renaissance palace on Via de' Tornabuoni with a rectangular plan, rusticated stone facade, and rounded arches supported by sandstone columns with carved capitals. The building combines classical Florentine design with functional spaces that today house a restaurant and offices.
Construction began in 1461 under architect Giuliano da Maiano for merchant Giovanni Boni, until Niccolò Antinori purchased it in 1506 and established it as his family's seat. This acquisition marked the start of the Antinori's long history as a prominent Florentine merchant and winemaking family.
The ground floor hosts Cantinetta Antinori, a restaurant and wine bar that reflects centuries of Tuscan winemaking and cooking traditions. This space shows how a family has kept their craft alive and passed it down through generations.
The ground floor is open to the public where visitors can explore the restaurant and wine bar, tasting Tuscan wines and food. Via de' Tornabuoni is a central location in the historic center with easy access, so visiting during quieter hours is advisable.
The palace continues to serve as a family residence and business headquarters, with members of the Antinori family living in the upper floors. This makes it a rare example of a Renaissance palace that has maintained its original function as both private home and business center for over 500 years.
