Palazzo Ricasoli, Renaissance palazzo on Lungarno Corsini, Florence, Italy

Palazzo Ricasoli stands between Piazza Goldoni, Via del Parione and Lungarno Corsini. Its pale yellow facade has two upper floors with eleven arched windows each, dark shutters, and a ground-floor band with three grated openings and a round-arched doorway. The Lungarno side has ten bays; the Via del Parione side has nine, the first five on stone corbels.

Palazzo Ricasoli was begun around 1480, when Rinieri and Lorenzo d'Andrea Ricasoli of the Meleto branch bought houses near the Ponte alla Carraia; the family's finances were strained after Pope Sixtus IV's interdiction following the failed Pazzi conspiracy. The main block was finished by the early 16th century, and in 1553 Bishop Giovambattista Ricasoli commissioned three graffiti cycles of Roman history from Francesco Pagani, now lost. From the 1820s it housed the Hotel New York, where Tchaikovsky stayed in 1881.

The palace was long let to foreigners and was known in the late 18th century as "the English House"; Hester Lynch Thrale lived here in 1784-1786 and held a literary academy. From the 1820s it housed the Hotel New York, where William Cullen Bryant met Nathaniel Hawthorne in 1858 and Tchaikovsky stayed in 1881. The Ricasoli still own it.

Palazzo Ricasoli stands at the corner of piazza Goldoni, via del Parione and lungarno Corsini, on the Arno near ponte alla Carraia. The main facade faces the river; the via del Parione side shows the original sporti on stone corbels. It is a private building still owned by the Ricasoli family, so the interior is not open to visitors.
