Palazzo del Giardino, Baroque palace in Parco Ducale, Parma, Italy.
Palazzo del Giardino is a palace with baroque and neoclassical style in Parma's park, Italy. The building features multiple rooms with ornate frescoes and detailed stucco decorations visible on its ceilings and walls.
The palace was built starting in 1561 by Duke Ottavio Farnese as a residence for his court. In 1767, architect Ennemond Alexandre Petitot reworked the structure and changed its appearance with new architectural elements.
The palace was shaped by artists like Girolamo Mirola and Jacopo Zanguidi, who created elaborate paintings depicting classical themes throughout its rooms. These artworks show how much the decoration reflected the thinking and ideals of the Renaissance.
The palace is located in a park area and may not always be fully accessible to visitors since it serves as an office building. It is best to check ahead about any visiting hours or access restrictions before planning a trip.
One notable feature is the main hall, whose barrel vault is covered with about 200 ornate stucco bird figures. These avian sculptures form an unusual decorative motif that gives the room a distinctive character.
