Piazza Giovanni Bovio

The square extends over a natural terrace at the tip of Piombino's promontory, with transparent signs marking visible islands in the Tuscan archipelago.

The current square replaced the ancient Rocchetta fortification, an eleventh-century structure built on Etruscan foundations, through demolition works in the 1920s.

The square features a polychrome marble wind rose and serves as a central meeting point where visitors observe maritime activities in the Piombino Channel.

From the square, visitors can access Viale del Popolo, local restaurants, the Castle Museum, and follow the seaside promenade for several kilometers.

The square provides direct views of seven islands including Elba, Giglio, Montecristo, Capraia, and on clear days extends to the shores of Corsica.
