MuSaBa, Contemporary art park museum in Mammola, Italy
MuSaBa is an art museum set within a park spanning seven hectares at the foothills of Aspromonte in Calabria. The grounds feature contemporary artistic installations integrated with the remains of a fifteenth-century monastery and restored historic structures.
A Franciscan monastery from the fifteenth century formed the foundation of this place before artists transformed it into an art destination. From 1969 onward, the artist duo worked to gradually reshape the site into what it is today.
The place is named after artist Nik Spatari, who shaped this vision of art integrated with nature. Visitors encounter artworks throughout the grounds that blend seamlessly into the landscape, making the entire site feel like one continuous creation.
Access is on foot through pathways that wind across the grounds, allowing exploration of all areas. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the terrain is hilly and some paths are unpaved.
The site houses a large mosaic with geometric patterns and bright colors that covers an area comparable to a house. This artwork is visible from many points across the grounds and even from the surrounding valley.
