Riserva naturale Laguna di Orbetello

The Laguna di Orbetello extends across 1,533 hectares in Tuscany, forming the largest wetland along the Tyrrhenian coast with its saltwater lagoon system.

The area transformed from a hunting ground in the 1960s to a protected zone in 1971 when WWF Italy implemented conservation measures to preserve its natural heritage.

The reserve functions as an educational center where visitors learn about wetland ecosystems through guided tours and informative exhibitions about local wildlife.

The ornithological path remains open from September through April, offering wheelchair-accessible observation points and specialized bird watching structures throughout the route.

The reserve hosts 257 bird species, including 4,000 pink flamingos during winter months, alongside numerous foxes, badgers, and porcupines in its diverse ecosystem.
