Riserva naturale Montagna di Torricchio

Montagna di Torricchio is a protected nature reserve covering around 317 hectares across a mountainous terrain with multiple peaks. The landscape includes different elevations and habitats that support diverse plant communities.

The reserve was established in 1977 after being donated by a prominent Italian nobleman involved with the WWF movement. This donation marked an important step in preserving this natural area from development.

The site serves primarily as a working research environment where scientific teams conduct field studies on plant life. Visitors can observe how this protected area functions as a living laboratory for conservation science.

Access requires advance permission from the reserve management since visits are limited to research and educational purposes. The main approach is by way of the SS 209 road, so visitors should arrange their visit beforehand and expect a structured visit.

The reserve contains more than 700 plant species, with several specialized types found only here or in very few other locations. This botanical diversity makes it a valuable site for studying mountain plant life and how species adapt to specific conditions.
