Riserva naturale Monti Eremita - Marzano, Regional nature reserve in Colliano, Italy
The reserve encompasses 3,680 hectares of land across three municipalities, featuring the mountains Eremita at 1,579 meters and Marzano at 1,527 meters.
The Italian government established this protected area in 1993 to maintain the ecological balance between the Picentini Mountains and the Lucanian Apennines.
Local communities in Colliano, Laviano, and Valva maintain traditional practices of collecting medicinal plants that grow naturally within the reserve boundaries.
Multiple CAI trails cross the reserve, including route 203 from Collianello along Mount Marzano slopes, providing access to the entire Sele Valley.
The reserve serves as a critical habitat for the Apennine wolf and wild cats, alongside numerous bird species including peregrine falcons and red kites.
