Quattromiglia

Quattromiglia is a residential district in Rende that stretches from western hills down to the Crati river at an elevation of 180 meters. The area sits in a central position within the municipality and serves as a connecting zone between different parts of the town.

The name comes from a farmhouse located about four kilometers from Cosenza, derived from the Latin words quattuor meaning four and milia meaning miles. The area transformed from agricultural land into a developed residential zone, particularly after the University of Calabria was established in the 1970s.

The population of 22,884 residents includes 509 foreign inhabitants, reflecting a mix of local Italian families and international community members.

The district connects to major roads through the A3 motorway exit at Rende-Cosenza Nord. Proximity to Castiglione Cosentino railway station provides good access to regional transportation networks.

The area underwent rapid transformation when the University of Calabria was established, fundamentally changing the local landscape. This academic institution attracted young people and shaped the district's growth in lasting ways.
