Riserva naturale Agoraie di sopra e Moggetto, State nature reserve in Metropolitan City of Genoa, Italy.
The Riserva naturale Agoraie di sopra e Moggetto is a protected nature reserve on the western slope of Monte Aiona at about 1,300 meters elevation. The site contains several permanent lakes alongside seasonal water bodies, all set within an alpine landscape of specialized vegetation and ancient forest traces.
The reserve was established to protect a fragile mountain zone with rare plants and ancient forest remains. The lakes contain wood fragments from thousands of years ago that reveal what forests covered this region in earlier times.
The reserve is managed by environmental officials as a protected natural laboratory where scientific work helps understand how these alpine ecosystems function. Visitors who gain access witness how the land thrives when left largely untouched.
Access is restricted to organized groups conducting scientific research because of the delicate ecosystem. Anyone interested in visiting should understand that entry requires special permission and the conditions can be challenging.
The reserve contains specialized peat wetlands where rare mosses like Sphagnum fuscum thrive alongside unusual plants such as Lycopodiella inundata and Viola palustris. These boggy habitats form only under very specific conditions and are exceptionally scarce in alpine regions.
