The Riserva naturale Antiche Città di Fregellae e Fabrateria Nova e del Lago di S. Giovanni Incarico is a nature reserve in Frosinone province that protects a large lake and the surrounding landscape. The water body formed where two rivers converge, and today it anchors a place where ancient ruins sit alongside forests and wetlands.

Fregellae was founded in the 4th century BCE as a Roman settlement and thrived until it was destroyed during a conflict. Afterward, people established Fabrateria Nova elsewhere in the same river valley to rebuild their community.

The reserve takes its name from two ancient Roman settlements whose ruins visitors can still see scattered across the landscape today. The remains tell the story of communities that built their homes and gathering places in this river valley.

The reserve is accessible by walking trails that wind through open land and along the lake edge. Bring proper footwear since some paths are uneven, and sun protection is needed in areas without tree cover.

The area shelters otters, animals that have become scarce across Europe and find refuge in the shoreline vegetation here. Their presence signals that the ecosystem is healthy enough to support even demanding wildlife species.
