The reserve spans 715 hectares along the shores of Lake San Giovanni Incarico, formed by the waters of Liri River meeting Sacco River.
The area contains archaeological remains of Fregellae, founded in 328 BCE, and Fabrateria Nova, established in 124 BCE after Fregellae's destruction.
Archaeological excavations since 1978 have revealed public areas, residences, and sanctuaries that document Roman settlement patterns in central Italy.
Visitors can explore hiking trails, observe migratory birds, and participate in guided tours that connect archaeological sites with natural landscapes.
The reserve harbors otters, cormorants, and grey herons, while its waters support diverse fish populations including carp and pike species.
