Monumento naturale Grotte di Falvaterra e Rio Obaco

The cave network extends over two kilometers beneath Monte Lamia, featuring underground streams, waterfalls, lakes, and white limestone formations throughout its passages.

The site contains pre-Roman polygonal walls discovered at Castellone Costa Marione, indicating early human presence in this geological formation during ancient times.

Scientists from Tor Vergata University of Rome conduct research on cave-dwelling creatures, including several bat species and transparent Niphargus crustaceans within the caves.

Visitors can explore 250 meters through regular tours or extend their adventure to 600 meters through specialized speleological excursions with proper equipment.

The active section of Falvaterra caves connects directly to Pastena caves through a 2.5-kilometer passage containing pseudo-siphons and a central water siphon.
