Rifugio Alpe Corte, Mountain hut in Valcanale, Italy
Rifugio Alpe Corte is a mountain hut in Valcanale, in the Lombardy region of northern Italy, sitting at around 1,410 feet (430 m) and serving as the first stop on the Sentiero delle Orobie Orientali loop trail. It has an indoor dining room and an outdoor seating area with lounge chairs.
The hut was founded in 1948 and has grown over the decades into a facility open to a wide range of visitors. It was gradually expanded to welcome families, groups, and people with mobility needs throughout the year.
The kitchen at Rifugio Alpe Corte serves regional dishes such as cocoa ravioli, blueberry risotto, and a traditional apple-amaretto cake. These recipes reflect the mountain food traditions of the Orobie area and are a good reason to stop for lunch or dinner.
The hut can be reached via trail 220 from Valcanale in about one hour, or via trail 270A from the Baite di Mezzeno in Val Brembana. Both paths are clearly marked and the ascent is manageable for walkers with different levels of fitness.
Rifugio Alpe Corte is one of the few mountain huts in the Orobie designed with accessibility in mind, actively welcoming visitors with disabilities. This makes it an unusual stop in a mountain area where such facilities are rare.
