Boèhütte, Mountain hut in Canazei, Italy.
Boèhütte is a mountain hut in the Italian Dolomites near Canazei, sitting at about 9,426 feet (2,873 meters) above sea level. It offers dormitory beds and private rooms, with dinner and breakfast included for overnight guests.
The hut was founded in 1894 by the Italian Alpine Club, making it one of the first organized shelters in this part of the Dolomites. It helped open the area to climbers at a time when the high peaks were still rarely visited.
The hut serves regional dishes that are part of everyday eating in the Dolomites, such as polenta, canederli, and local cheese. Guests who stay overnight get a sense of the simple, direct hospitality that defines mountain life in this part of the Alps.
The hut is generally open from June to September, and sleeping spaces are best reserved ahead of time, especially in summer. Weather at this altitude changes quickly, so bring warm layers and rain gear regardless of the forecast.
The name Boèhütte comes from the nearby Piz Boè, which is the highest point of the Sella Group and gives its name to this side of the massif. Many visitors do not realize that the word Boè comes from Ladin, the ancient language still spoken in the valleys below.
