Rifugio Cesare Benigni, Mountain hut in Ornica, Italy
Rifugio Cesare Benigni is a mountain hut situated at 2222 meters within Bergamo Orobie Park, serving hikers traveling the regional trails. It provides overnight beds for 14 guests and dining spaces that accommodate up to 45 people indoors and 20 outdoors.
The hut was established in 1982 through the joint efforts of Alta Valle Brembana CAI members and the Benigni family, officially opening in 1984. It was built as a memorial to a climber who had perished on the mountain a few years earlier.
The name honors a local mountaineer who died in 1981, and the refuge keeps this memory alive through daily alpine hospitality. It serves as a gathering point where hikers and climbers experience traditional mountain culture in the Orobie region.
The refuge operates seasonally from June through September to accommodate mountain travelers. Plan your visit during these months and bring appropriate gear for alpine weather, as conditions at this elevation can change quickly.
From this shelter, mountaineers can reach several peaks including Piazzotti at 2349 meters, Trona at 2510 meters, and Tre Signori at 2554 meters. The proximity of these summits makes it an excellent base for both day climbs and multi-day mountaineering adventures.
