Rifugio Gerli-Porro, Mountain hut in Valmalenco Valley, Italy.
Rifugio Gerli-Porro is a mountain hut in Valmalenco Valley situated at 1965 meters elevation. The building has rooms for about 80 guests, a dining room with space for 110 people, and stands surrounded by alpine meadows and rocky cliffs.
The refuge was built to support mountaineers and hikers traveling through the Alps. It has become an essential stop for those walking established routes like the Alta Via della Valmalenco through the region.
The refuge is named after two climbers who were important to the mountains around here. Visitors eat together at shared tables and exchange stories about hiking and climbing in the valley.
The hut is open daily from June through September, weekends in May and autumn, and during winter from December through March. When arriving, watch the trail carefully as this location sits in a high alpine zone.
Deer, chamois, and golden eagles live in the area around the hut and can be spotted regularly while walking across the high meadows. Being near Mount Disgrazia makes this a special place for watching wildlife.
