Rifugio Migliorero, Mountain hut in Vinadio, Italy
Rifugio Migliorero is a mountain shelter located at 2,094 meters elevation on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Ischiator Valley in the Alta Valle Stura region. The facility accommodates about 50 guests in shared dormitories and features modern amenities including internet connection and solar-powered electricity.
The structure was originally built in 1934 as a mountain hotel and later underwent restoration by the Province of Cuneo. It has been managed by CAI Fossano since 1979 and continues to serve mountaineers today.
The shelter serves as a gathering place for hikers and mountaineers who come to explore the surrounding peaks together. It represents a way of life rooted in these high-altitude landscapes where people share meals and stories after days spent in nature.
The site is most accessible during summer and early autumn when mountain trails to this elevation are passable. Visitors should bring proper mountain gear since weather at this altitude can change quickly.
The shelter sits near two mountain lakes surrounded by peat bogs where white cotton grass blooms during summer. These wetland habitats are rare ecosystems that many hikers overlook while focusing on higher peaks.
